Audience:
The information covered in this course is presented in a format that is immediately applicable for healthcare providers and adjunct healthcare practitioners who already practice in or are interested in the field of dance medicine. This includes physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, athletic trainers, podiatrist, physicians and graduate PT students who are in the final year of their education.
Attendees agree to utilize all skills of evaluation, assessment and treatment learned in this course to the extent allowed under the regulations of their professional practice act. By registering you acknowledge that your attendance does not represent authorization by DMEI to utilize any of the material learned which may lie outside of the strict interpretation of your practice act.
Course Materials:
A course workbook will be made available to all participants one week prior to the start of the course via a shared google drive folder.
The following supplies will also be provided to all participants: Kinesiotape, Leukotape/cover roll, Lightplast, Elastikon, Tensoplast, foam/felt, QDA, dehesive, skin prep, scissors, razors and rubbing alcohol.
At completion of the course, each participant will be provided with one individual roll of kinesiology tape to take home.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Explain the purpose of each tape and/or padding technique for a variety of dance specific injuries affecting the lower and upper quadrant.
Identify the varieties of tape being utilized.
Verbalize the indications and contraindications for the use of tape and/or padding.
Determine appropriate candidates for taping/padding application based objective findings for a specific type of injury.
Choose when and how to modify taping and/or padding techniques based on treatment response and progression of healing.
Perform appropriate tape handling skills including material selection, skin prep, tape/padding, application, and removal.
Adjust taping and/or padding methods based on patient response.
Design a progressive taping/padding protocol designed to support the entire continuum of the rehabilitation plan from acute onset to return to dance.
